Background
The European Directives WEEE (Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and RoHS (Directive 2002/95/EC on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) became European law on February 13th, 2003. Member states of the European Union have to convert this directive into national law by August 13th, 2004.
Finally it must be ensured that by July 1st, 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market does not contain Lead (Pb) or any of the restricted hazardous materials identified in the legislation such as Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI), Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).

Conversion
Cologne Chip has been working on the conversion to lead-free products since 2003. The board of management has set two objectives in this regard with highest prioritiy:
|
1. Compliance with international environmental law
2. Enable of customers to ensure a successful transition to lead-free products
|
As a consequence of this early planning, Cologne Chip is glad to be RoHS-ready before the specified deadline: As expected, the conversion of the current product line has been completed by the end of 2005.
